Planning to buy a Health Insurance Policy? Then this article is a must-read before you buy Health Insurance.  Many are not aware of the fact that health insurance policies do not cover all ailments. Diseases that are not covered:

Sexually transmitted diseases:

Any condition directly or indirectly caused or associated with the sexually transmitted disease, including Genital warts, Syphilis, Gonorrhoea, Genital herpes, Chlamydia, Pubic Lice and Trichomoniasis, AIDS whether or not due to HIV, T-cell lymphotropic Virus, Lymphadenopathy associated virus or its variants.

Pregnancy-related:

Voluntary termination of pregnancy. Miscarriage, Childbirth, Maternity( Including C-Section), abortion or any complications of any of these.

Infertility:

Any treatment related to infertility, fertility or subfertility, birth control procedures, Hormone therapy, Contraceptives or anything associated with reproductive technology

Dental treatment:

Includes, any dental treatment or surgery unless due to an accident or injury

Laser treatment:

Charges incurred in connection with spectacles or contact lenses, hearing aids. Routine eye and ear examinations, artificial teeth, laser surgery etc.

Prosthesis expenses:

Any expenses incurred on the prosthesis, corrective device, medical equipment like a wheelchair, Walker, belts, caps, Braces, Splints etc.

Obesity treatment:

Weight management services and services like obesity treatment.

Sleep disorder treatments:

Sleep apnea, Insomnia, Rehabilitation measures, the Long term nursing care

Birth defects: 

Congenital anomaly or defects related to birth defects

Mental illness:

Mental illness treatments, psychiatric or psychological disorders.

Cosmetic treatments:

Aesthetic, Cosmetic treatment, plastic surgery related treatments

Sex change surgeries:

Any treatment related to sex or gender change including complications arising from these treatments

Immunization:

All preventive care, vaccinization, vitamins or tonics

Self-destruction: 

Act of self-destruction or self-inflicted injury.

Stem cell implantation:  

Harvesting, Stem cell implantation, storage or any treatment related to stem cells

Chemical attacks:

Nuclear or chemical attacks, Injuries, Injury due to emission, discharge, radioactive material etc

Treatment was taken in the home for aged, detox therapy, rest home etc

Non-allopathic treatment

Treatment received outside India

Treatments which have specific waiting period are:

Hence, any claim for any of the following illness shall not be admissible during the first 24 consecutive months of coverage of the insured person from the first policy start date.

  • Arthritis, Ghout, osteoarthritis and joint replacement surgery
  • Adenoidectomy. Nasal septum deviation, sinusitis related disorders
  • Cataract
  • Fistula plies Duodenal ulcers etc
  • All types of hernia
  • Hysterectomy
  • Internal tumours, cysts, Polyps
  • Kidney stone, gall bladder stone
  • Varicose veins and varicose ulcers

So, before buying any health policy it is always better to consider the above factors and go for the best health policies which cater to all your needs. Hence you must know all about health insurance before buying.
